GARDENING

Take pride in your yard! If you live in South Coconut Grove you know what I mean. A beautiful spot on this earth.

Remember:

Lush does not mean trashy.
Pruning trees & overgrown brush is very prudent, especially around windstorm time (Hurricane)...remember what Katrina and Wilma did to Miami.
Use native plants, they belong here and they are used to the weather.
Please, please, please, stop planting ficuses.  They don't belong here.  Their root systems are shallow, and they fall over anytime the wind blows.

In fact, here is a list of problem trees.  Don't plant them!

  • Australian Pine
  • Brazilian Pepper
  • Chinese Tallow
  • Melaleuca
  • Tree Bamboo
  • FICUS

These are some recommended trees:

  • Geiger Tree
  • Glaucous Cassia
  • Silver Buttonwood
  • Florida Thatch Palm
  • Spanish Stopper

For even more info click on Natives, or spend the day at Fairchild Tropical Gardens.

Now, any of the landscapers below can keep your yard & garden looking nice.

What’s funny about flooring? You walk all over it, it gets dirty, you gotta clean it, which leads us to Janitorial.

Actually, flooring can make or break your interior.

Hardwood floors (such as oak, mahogany, and cherry) can be used from contemporary lofts to classic old Spanish(es), and basically everything in between.

Laminates (aka engineered wood) are being used in a lot of homes for their durability and ease of installation. Also, they're available in many styles and colors.

Stone floors are more common in Mediterranean and Vanaculars (fancy word for Key West style). Tile flooring can be found in many shapes, styles, colors, and material.

Vinyl was popular with the old Cuban set that used to thrive on 8th street, but have been pushed out by the Janitorial service industry (not as funny as intended, but if you grew up here you know what I mean).

Guys below will help you with the wood and stone. Vinyl, you're on your own. (Hey that rhymes!)
